THE POWER TO BECOME – Sunday January 4th 2015

THE POWER TO BECOME Memorise: But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them but believe on his name: John 1:12 Read: 1 st Samuel 16:11-13, Bible in one year: Isaiah 9:8-11:16, Acts 3 In 1 st Samuel 2:8, we read of what the Almighty God can make out of the life of an ordinary person. He gives the power to become. The power comes to an individual by the spirit of God. When the power of the Holy Spirit comes in contact with an ordinary person, that fellow cease to be ordinary and becomes extraordinary. However, before the gift of the Holy Spirit can come upon an individual, he or she must possess some qualities that would bring about such empowerment. Before God can entrust you with His power, He would have ascertained that you would make good use of it. God gives His power for the purpose of expanding His kingdom on earth (Acts 1:8). David was given the power to become a deliverance minister through the instrumentality of the anointing. What...

LIKE THE STARS - Saturday January 3rd 2015

LIKE THE STARS Memorise: And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. Daniel 12:3 Read: Daniel 6:19-28, Bible in one year: Isaiah 6:8-9:7, Acts 2:29-47 A star is as outstanding figure among his or her contemporaries. He shines and outshines his colleagues. One of the ways to be a star is to be created a star (Genesis 1:16). Jeremiah was created a star by God (Jeremiah 1:5). Another way to become a star is to have a parent who is a star. The day a prince is born, he is already a star. While some people are born as star, some others are made stars or gifts and through hard work, get promoted to become stars. Deuteronomy 34:9 tells of Joshua who was made a star because Moses laid hands on him. Daniel achieved stardom by the use of his gifts, skills and through hard work (Daniel 6:1-3). To shine like the stars, you need God. The Bible in Psalm 75:6-7 says: “For promotion cometh neither from th...

BE FRUITFUL – Friday January 2nd 2015

BE FRUITFUL   Memories: Thou shalt be blessed above all not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle. Deuteronomy 7:14 Read: Genesis 1:26-28, Bible in one year; Isaiah 3:1-6:7, Acts 2:1-28 When the Lord spoke to man in Genesis 1:28 to be faithful and to multiply, He was not giving a piece of advice. Rather, He was issuing a decree that must be established. Failure to bear fruit directly contradicts divine law or decree. I pray for someone using this devotional, that the Lord will cause you to experience all-round fruitfulness this year in Jesus’ Name. It is wonderful to note that God is not only interested in your spiritual fruitfulness but also in your physical and material fruitfulness. God is not happy when we do not live in divine prosperity, because it is His uttermost desire that His children live a daily life of fruitfulness and increase (Deuteronomy 7:14) What other types of fruit is the Almighty God expecting from us? They type of fruit God expects depends ...

A NEW BEGINNING – Thursday January 1st 2015

A NEW BEGINNING  Memorise: And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. Revelation 21:5 Read: Isaiah 43:19; Bible in one year: Isaiah 1-2; Acts 1 When someone promises to give you a gift, before you begin to celebrate, find out whether the fellow has the wherewithal to fulfil the promise, or else you may be disappointed. The good news is that the Almighty God, who knows no impossibility, said in Isaiah 43:19 that He would do a new thing for His children this year. I pray for someone using this devotional that something pleasantly new and glorious will happen to you this year in Jesus’ Name. However, for something new to happen. The old must give way. In Genesis 32:24-28, the angel said to Jacob that his old name must give way for a new one. The Lord said this same thing to his grandfather and grandmother-Abraham and Sarah, whose names were changed from Abram and Sarai respectively. The old na...

IT PAYS TO LIVE HOLY II– Wednesday December 31st 2014

IT PAYS TO LIVE HOLY II Memorise: For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her. Zechariah 2:5 Read: Job 1:8-10, Bible in one year: Acts 27:28, Song of Solomon 8:8-14 Everybody in this world wants to secure. Witchcraft is prospering because people feel insecure and they are looking for security from any available source. The unfortunate thing is that, looking for security from the forces of darkness is looking for security from the very person who wants to destroy you. Those who are living a holy life have the protection of the Lord Almighty. This is because God has built a hedge around them. In Job 1:9-10, the Bible tells us that God had put a hedge around Job and his household. God put a hedge around job because he served Him. Job got into the predicament that befell him because God wanted to prove a point to Satan. Around every holy child of God, there is an unseen wall. Satan cannot pass through this wall because it is...

IT PAYS TO LIVE HOLY I – Tuesday December 30th 2014

IT PAYS TO LIVE HOLY I  Memorise: But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. Romans 6:22 Read: Proverb 11: 17-18, Bible in one year: Acts 24:22-26:32, Song of Solomon 7:11-8:7 There is a sure reward for all those who are living holy. Men will go the extra mile to get a great reward from an endeavour, no matter the sacrifices it may require of them. Holiness requires from us certain sacrifices; we have to forgo certain things. I can assure you that there are several rewards for living holy. God is not merely asking us to live holy; He also promises “sure rewards” for living holy. For example, long life is a sure reward of holy living according to Proverbs 11:19.Sin leads to death while holiness leads to life. You will die young if you are indulging in sin. But if you are living holy, Satan will not be able to get you into a snare that can lead you to death. Another reward is found in Hosea 10:12: “Sow...

BE STEADFAST IN FAITH – Monday December 29th 2014

BE STEADFAST IN FAITH  Memorise: Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. 1 st Corinthians 15:58 Read: Revelation 3:7-11, Bible in one year: Acts 22:22-24:21, Song of Solomon 6:10-7:10 Many Christians believe in their pastor and the doctrines of their Church. There is nothing wrong in this in as much as the pastor is living right and the doctrines are biblical. However, your faith and steadfastness must be built on Jesus Christ, the Author and finisher of your faith who cannot disappoint you. A man will backslide with his pastor, if his faith anchors on the pastor and the pastor backslides. This is the reason why you must know Jesus Christ will make you steadfast if you know Him adequately enough. The Holy Spirit through Apostle Paul wrote this: “But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but los...

PERFECT CHRISTIAN? Sunday December 28th 2014

PERFECT CHRISTIAN?  Memorise: Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. Matthew 5:48 Read: Job 1-5:8, Bible in one year: Acts 20: 17-22:21, Song of Solomon 5:10-6:9 When we compare two things and we say one is better than the other, it may not necessarily mean that either of the two is desirable. But when we say something is perfect, it means that it is good in itself and there is no evil complaint about it. It also means that it is no good that there is no need to improve on it. This is the definition of the perfect Christian. A perfect Christian is a Christian that is without blemish – a Christ-like individual indeed. There are different categories of Christians. There are different categories of Christians. There are those who have been saved but not sanctified. These ones easily get annoyed. They cannot be described as perfect Christians. Some Christians are saved and sanctified. These ones do not get annoyed. There was a time we were rehea...

IS GOD SILENT? Saturday December 27th 2014

IS GOD SILENT? Memorise: Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear. Isaiah 59:1-3 Bible in one year: Acts 18:18-20:16, Song of Solomon 5:2-9 Some seventeen years ago, I preached a message titled: “When God Is Silent”. I said that when people think God is silent, He is actually speaking but they are not listening. God also seems to be silent when people don’t want to accept what He has to say. God seems to be silent when people have made up their minds on their minds on the kind of response they expect to get from Him without which they would not listen to Him. God is silent when a covenant with Him has been broken as it was with King Saul. Saul wanted to hear from an agent with familiar spirits and also from God. God goes silent when He sees that He is not the only counsellor or source of guidance you have. If you have played to know God’s mind on certain issues and it seems God is silent, turn a searchlight to yoursel...

CHRISTIAN COURTSHIP – Friday December 26th 2014

CHRISTIAN COURTSHIP  Memorise: Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge. Hebrews 13:4 Bible in one year: Acts 16:16-18:17, Song of Solomon 4:9-5:1 It is one thing to choose the right partner in marriage; it is another thing to choose the right approach to courtship. A wrong approach to courtship, particularly Christian courtship, can have a negative impact on the right choice. Therefore, believers that are in courtship must be Christian through and through if they would eat the good of the land of marriage (Isaiah 1:19). An important lesson for ladies to learn is that, a man is at his best in courtship. He would call you by different pet names. He would tease you and make you feel secure. These are the normal sweet words you should hear in courtship. However, when the wedding ceremony is over, his hidden shortcomings will be exposed because he can no longer hide them. The saying that “love is blind” is true but marriag...

RIGHT CHOICE IN MARRIAGE – Thursday December 25th 2014

RIGHT CHOICE IN MARRIAGE  Memorise: Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness? 2 nd Corinthians 6:14 Read: 1 st Kings 11:1-4, Bible in one year: Acts 14:1-16:15, Song of Solomon 4:1-8 Apart from the choice of who to serve, choosing who to marry is another fundamental choice that affects the destiny of an individual. A wrong choice in marriage can negatively affect the choice to serve God. Solomon chose to marry many strange women and they influenced him to forsake God and serve their idols. Solomon’s earlier decision to serve the Almighty God was badly affected by his marriages. A marriage partner can take Heaven away from the dreams of his or her spouse and replace it with Hell. Depending on who you choose to marry, your relationship with God will either continue to improve or it will stop all together. Solomon did not want to forget God who had done so much for...

RIGHT CHOICE? – Wednesday December 24th 2014

RIGHT CHOICE?  Memorise: I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: Deuteronomy 30:19 Read: Deuteronomy 30:19-20, Bible in one year: Acts 12:6-13:52, Song of Solomon 3 There comes a time in the life of everyone that a choice has to be made between two alternatives. Choice means deciding between possibilities. It means accepting an option while rejecting another. For every choice made, there is always an alternative forgone. This is why it is important to make the right choice in life. It is unfortunate that some so-called Christians don’t have an alternative forgone. They want to have their cake and eat it at the same time. They want to be in Christ and at the same time be in the world. 1 st John 2:15-17 means nothing to them. As long as you are alive, you will be confronted with making choices. It might be the choice of a career, th...

NO IMPOSSIBILITY – Tuesday December 23rd 2014

NO IMPOSSIBILITY Memorise: For with God nothing shall be impossible. Luke 1:37 Read: 2 nd Kings 2:9-10, Bible in one year: Acts 10:1-12:5, Song of Solomon 2:8-17 Elijah told Elisha that he had asked a hard thing, after the latter requested for a double portion of his anointing. This tells us that even for a great prophet of God, there were things considered hard and difficult. However, in Matthew 19:26, we are told that all things are possible with God. The track record of God’s almightiness shows that truly nothing can be difficult for Him. All we need to do is to leave everything in His hands. He is capable of doing what no earthly president or emperor can do because the Psalmist says that power belongs to God (Psalm 62:11). Even when a man promises to do something for you, what he can do is limited to the extent his strength can carry him, whereas God has unlimited power and resources. Also, the influence of a man determines what he can do to influence your situation positively...

FORSAKING ALL TO GAIN ALL - Monday December 22nd 2014

FORSAKING ALL TO GAIN ALL  Memorise: And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days. 1 st Kings 17:15 Read: Mark 10:28-30, Bible in one year: Acts 8-9 Song of Solomon 1:11-2:7 Elisha was the son of a wealthy farmer (1 st Kings 19:19). He was unlike Elijah the son of a nobody, whose father’s name was not even mentioned in the Bible (1 st Kings 17:1). Yet, Elisha followed this materially poor but spiritually rich prophet of Yahweh. When a fellow is called to forsake the business world to do spiritual work, he or she may not know the glory that is waiting for him or her. When Elisha forsook the flourishing farming business of his father, little did he know that kings will later call him “father” (2 nd Kings 6:21). In the text of today’s scripture reading, we read of how Jesus assured His disciples that their sacrificial living shall be rewarded in a hundredfold here and hereafter. As a result of the demand of God for my...

DETECTING FALSE PROPHETS – Sunday December 21st 2014

DETECTING FALSE PROPHETS  Memorise: Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 1 st John 4:1 Read: 1 st John 4:1-4, Bible in one year: Acts 6:7, Songs of Solomon 1:1-10 There are different categories of prophets. We have genuine prophets and counterfeit prophets. You might have been deceived by false prophet, but if you search very well, you will find a genuine one who will deliver the correct message of God to you. One thing is certain: God will always deal with false prophets at His own time and in His own way (Deuteronomy 18:20). God always confirms the words of His genuine prophets (1 st Samuel 3:19). The apostles warned us in their epistles against listening to false prophets. Apostle Peter in 2 nd Peter 2:1 warns that: “But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying t...

THE FULLNESS OF TIME – Saturday December 20th 2014

Image
THE FULLNESS OF TIME Memorise: To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven; Ecclesiastes 3:1 Read: Acts 2:1-4, Bible in one year: Acts 4:5; Ecclesiastes 12:9-14 When the day of Pentecost was fully come, the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples of Jesus Christ. This event makes it clear that our God is a God of times and seasons (Daniel 2:20-21). If you look at the life of Elizabeth – the mother of John the Baptist, you may be wondering: why the delay of the fruit of the womb in the life of such a devoted daughter of Zion? The answer is found in the later event of the birth of John the Baptist, who Jesus Christ acknowledged as the greatest of all the prophets (Matthew 11:11). He was born by same woman that was considered barren for many decades. When the fullness of time came, Elizabeth conceived and gave birth to the forerunner of the Messiah (Luke 1:11-16). The Almighty God moves very fast whenever He wants to do something. When it seems God is slow ...

WHAT DO YOU WANT? 2 – Friday December 19th 2014

Image
WHAT DO YOU WANT? 2 Memorise: Then said the king unto her, What wilt thou, queen Esther? And what is thy request? It shall be even given thee to the half of the kingdom. Esther 5:3 Read: Proverbs 4:7-8, Bible in one year: Acts 1-3, Ecclesiastes 12:1-8 The awesomeness of wisdom is stated in the Bible reading of today. There are lots of lessons of wisdom we can learn from the experiences of Bible heroes and heroines like Solomon and Esther. One of such lessons is the: “There are things that money cannot buy, but wisdom can get you almost everything you need in life”. Money cannot buy you sleep even though you may have the money to buy a water bed. Money can buy you education but money cannot buy you wisdom. While it is wisdom to abstain from what can kill you, what do we see in our society today? We see a doctor who has acquire medical education indulging in chain-smoking. He has education but he is not wise enough to abstain from a potential killer – smoking. We have heard of lawyers,...
