A NEW BEGINNING OF FREEDOM – Sunday February 1st 2015

A NEW BEGINNING OF FREEDOM Memorise: If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. John 8:36 Read: Exodus 15:13-17, Bible in one year: Jeremiah 22:11-23:40, Acts 18:24-19:20 A new beginning of freedom can be viewed from different perspectives. It can be seen as the awareness of bondage, the rejection of labels and stigmas imposed by others, or deliverance from slavery and servitude. A new beginning of freedom can also refer to the elimination of former constraints, the dawn of a new day or the raising of the sun over darkness. However, since freedom denotes salvation or deliverance from oppression or bondage, a saviour or deliverer is required before freedom can be attained. Many are in bondage without realising it. Long years of hardship have forced so many to accept suffering as normal. I pray that God will open your eyes to the reality of your situation in Jesus’ Name. Some people have been labelled and stigmatised by the enemy. Some of such people even enjoy an...

THE WONDERS OF DIVINE VICTORY – Saturday January 31st 2015

THE WONDERS OF DIVINE VICTORY  Memorise: Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God. Psalm 20:7 Read: 1 st Samuel 17:44-50, Bible in one year: Jeremiah 19:1-22:10, Acts 18:1-23 The wonders of divine victory are inexplicable. How do you explain the victory that King Jehoshaphat recorded in 2 nd Chronicles 20:15-24? How do you explain confronting the armies of three kings with an orchestra and yet securing total victory? This victory was a wonder because it was divinely procured. Instead of organising bow and arrow, shield and spear, and other war implements, Jehoshaphat organised an orchestra that sang about the praise and mercies of God. This is what the wonders of divine victory look like: “And when Judah came forward the watch tower in the wilderness, they look unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped.” 2 nd Chronicles 20:24 The story of David’s victory over Goliath is another...

WONDERFULN RESTORATION – Friday January 30th 2015

WONDERFULN RESTORATION  Memorise: Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. Psalm 51:12 Read: Ezekiel 37:1-10, Bible in one year: Jeremiah 16:14-18:23, Acts 17:16-34 When the earth was in shambles in the beginning, the wonder-working God restored it by His word (Genesis 1:1-3). It is interesting to note that the Almighty does not only create, He also restores. I command the restoration power of the Almighty to come upon you today in Jesus’ Name. Our Bible text has a narrative that described the wonderful restoration that God will give you today. It describes the wonder of the restoration of very dry bones. Ezekiel here was taken to the valley of dry bones. Dry bones of course signify a state of hopelessness and lifelessness. Thank God it was the Spirit of the Lord that carried Ezekiel to the valley of dry bones; if it were an evil spirit, he himself would have become one of them. When Ezekiel got to the valley, there was a dialogue between him an...

STOREHOUSE FOR WONDERS – Thursday January 29th 2015

STOREHOUSE FOR WONDERS   Memorise: The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not went. Psalm 23:1 Read: 1 st Kings 17:12-16, Bible in one year: Jeremiah 14:1-16:13, Acts 17:1-15 You will observe that ever since God rested from His work in Genesis 2:2, He has been working on and through His earlier creations in propagating His purpose. For example, God never created another set of man and woman after the first man and woman had been created. Rather, he charged those He had already created to be faithful, to multiply and to replenish the earth (Genesis 1:28). When God is confronted with a need, He will use what is already available in His creation to meet the need. When God was confronted with the need to feed His prophet for a number of years during a famine, He needed a storehouse of wonders to meet this need. The widow of Zarephath’s house become this storehouse for wonders. The man of God, Elijah, discovered a barrel of flour and a cruse of oil that were almost empty in this house. Howev...

WORKSHOP FOR WONDER – Wednesday January 28th 2015

WORKSHOP FOR WONDER Memorise: How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. Acts 10:38 Read: John 9:1-7; Bible in one year: Jeremiah 11:13, Acts 16:16-40 A potential recipient of uncommon miracles is a workshop of wonders. A classic example is the man born blind in today’s Bible reading. No artisan or craftsman can do his work effectively without a workshop. It may amaze you that candidates for miracles are workshops for the miracle-working Jesus. When the disciples confronted Jesus on whether the blind man was born blind as a result of sin, He said neither the man or his parents did sin. Jesus said he was born blind so that the works of God might be made manifest in him. Jesus swung into action immediately; with His creative divine ability, He produced brand new eyes for this man. You too can be a workshop for the great Miracle-worker provided you are willing to ...

WONDERFUL SAVIOUR – Tuesday January 27th 2015

WONDERFUL SAVIOUR Memorise: For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, the everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 Read: Acts 2:22-24; Bible in one year: Jeremiah 8:18-10:25, Acts 15:36-16:15 A major difference between Christianity and other religious is the availability of the Saviour for anyone who needs salvation. As a matter of fact, the essence of true religion is the salvation that it guarantees. Any religion that does not offer the assurance of salvation, particularly salvation for sin, is a base contraption. Concerning Jesus, the Bible in Matthew 1:21 says that: “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” Why is Jesus Christ the wonderful Saviour? His confessions and testimony about Himself make Him wonderful. No man ever spoke the words that Jesus did. In John 15:13, He ...

CURE FOR DEFEAT – Monday January 26th 2015

CURE FOR DEFEAT  Memorise: Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy loving-kindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgression. Psalm 51:1;  Read: 1 st King 21:17-29, Bible in one year: Jeremiah 7:1-8:17, Acts 15:12-35 When a man continues to transgress the law of God, he becomes a profane person, and unless he quickly retraces his steps to the Word of God, he may suffer permanent defeat like Samson who died with his enemies. I pray for someone using this devotional, you will not die with your enemies in Jesus’ Name. if you have suffered defeat due to carelessness, the Lord is interested in getting you back on your feet. The roadmap for your recovery can be found in the manufacturers manual – the Bible. Let’s take a look at the Bible therefore to see how you can recover from a defeat. The first thing you need to do is to pay close attention to the voice of the Lord (Deuteronomy 28:1). If you are in a state of defeat, the Lord will send a ...

EX-CHAMPION? – Sunday January 25th 2015

EX-CHAMPION?  Memorise: Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. John 5:14 Read: Joshua 7:1-5, Bible in one year: Jeremiah 5:6, Acts 14:19-15:11 Although it is an unpleasant experience to be a defeated contender, becoming an ex-champion is a much more grievous experience. When you are not a champion, only a few people pay attention to you. But by the time you become a champion, you will be on the radar of many people, including your enemies. A champion has more enemies to contend with than an ordinary contender. I pray you will not be an ex-champion in Jesus’ Name. The story in our scripture reading is a sad one. The people of God had just recorded victory over a great city called Jericho , and they forged ahead to occupy a small village called Ai. To their surprise and consternation, they were beaten silly! Their leader, Joshua, was downcast. But after making enquiries from God, he di...

ENEMY OF DIVINE BLESSINGS – Saturday January 24th 2015

ENEMY OF DIVINE BLESSINGS  Memorise: The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringth low, and lifeth up. 1 st Samuel 2:7;  Read: Hosea 5:3-9, Bible in one year: Jeremiah 3:6-4:31, Acts 13:48-14:18 At the beginning of Ephraim’s history, Ephraim was God’s favourite and a symbol of blessing. In Genesis 48:20, Jacob pronounced these blessings of Ephraim: “… In thee shall Israel bless, saying, God make thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh: and he set Ephraim before Manasseh.” David also spoke about the blessings of Ephraim in Psalm 108:8. Without any doubt, Ephraim was indeed a beneficiary of divine blessings. But at some point in history, Ephraim became an object of ridicule (Jeremiah 7:15). How did Ephraim come to this state? The answer is in Hosea 4:17: “Ephraim is joined to idols: let him alone.” What is idolatry? Idolatry is the act of reverencing anything other than the Almighty God. It can take the form of esteeming your culture, race, idea, achievement, etc over and above the...

IRREVERSIABLE DIVINE BLESSINGS – Friday January 23rd 2015

IRREVERSIABLE DIVINE BLESSINGS Memorise: The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it. Proverbs 10:22 Read: Genesis 22:15-18, Bible in one year: Jeremiah 1:1-3:5, Acts 13:26-47 The blessings that can be regarded as irreversible are those which come from God. God Almighty decided to give irreversible blessings to Abraham. In Genesis 22:16-17, God declared thus: “…By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son: that in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed  as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;” The condition nature of divine blessings makes some of them irreversible. When you fulfil some spiritual conditions for divine blessings, God will show Himself mighty, faithful and dependable in your life. Nobody is able to reverse a divine blessing, except God Himself...

A PEACEMAKER? – Thursday January 22nd 2015

A PEACEMAKER?  Memorise: Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Matthew 5:9 Read: 2 nd Corinthians 5:18-20, Bible in one year: Isaiah 65-66, Acts 13:1-25 When Adam and Eve fell into sin in the Garden of Eden, this brought enmity between the Creator and His human creator. The first man and woman decided to love when God hated (Genesis 3:6). It is unfortunate that this spiritual depravity has continued till date. Men tend to love the world more than their Creator as a result of the lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life (1 st John 2:14-14). “Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims , and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.” Genesis 3:23-24 The enmity and separation symbolised by the scripture above lingered for a very long time until Go...

GOOD SUCCESS – Wednesday January 21st 2015

GOOD SUCCESS  Memorise: For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them. Proverbs 1:32 Read: Joshua 1:8, Bible in one year: Isaiah 61:64, Acts 12:6-25 The Bible classifies success into good success and negative or bad success. Of course, to the carnal mind, the idea of bad success is an irony. The Lord defined the type of success that emanates from Him in Proverbs 10:22 “The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.” In other words, if a so-called blessing is not from the Lord, certainly there will be some sorrow attached to it. This kind of success cannot be said to be good. Little wonder God Almighty prescribed what will bring good success to Joshua, as there are other type of success. The blessing of the Lord makes you live long to enjoy the fruit of your labour (Psalm 91:6). The Lord who blesses is the same one who protects. If you are afraid of calamity after a breakthrough, maybe the source of tha...

THE WORD & THE BLOOD – Tuesday January 20th 2015

THE WORD & THE BLOOD  Memorise: And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. Revelation 12:11 Read: Hebrew 12:22-25, Bible in one year: Isaiah 58:60, Acts 11:19-12:5 There are two irresistible weapons available to the children of God in spiritual warfare. These are then Word [of God] and the Blood [of Jesus Christ]. The Word is so powerful that the entire universe was made by abnormality in your life under control, just as He did in Genesis 1. Death is the greatest problem that confronts mankind. The Bible in 1 st Corinthians 15:56a reveals that the power of death lies in sin: “The sting of death is sin;” But praise God, the Blood of Jesus took care of sin once and for all. Revelation 1:5b says that: “Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sin in his own blood,” Once the matter of sin is dealt with by the sinless Blood of Jesus Christ, the evil sting of death is rendered powerless. As ...

DO YOU DESIRE TO BE BLESSED? – Monday January 19th 2015

DO YOU DESIRE TO BE BLESSED?  Memorise: Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Psalm 32:1 Read: Genesis 27:1-4, Bible in one year: Isaiah 54:57, Acts 10:44-11:18 Many people desire to be blessed by God and men, but they have never bothered to do anything to actualise their most-desired blessings. Many have received fantastic prophecies which they know are theirs indeed, but they have never taken any step to bring about the fulfilment of such prophecies. When the Lord told the children of Israel that it was time for them to possess the Promised Land flowing with milk and honey, the onus was on them to depose the illegal occupants before they could possess it (Joshua 1:11-15) It is very important that the children of God know the principles that guarantee divine blessing so that they can endeavour to apply them. Years ago, at London Heathrow on my way back to Nigeria , I met two of my children who greeted me, and I responded accordingly. One of them move...

PECULIAR GENERATION – Sunday January 18th 2015

PECULIAR GENERATION  Memorise: Beloved, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God; therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. 1 st John 3:2 Read: 1 st Peter 2:9-10, Bible in one year: Isaiah 51:53, Acts 10:24-43 When John the beloved pondered on the fact that believers in Christ are children of God, he could not stop wondering how privileged they were to be so-called (1 st John 3:2). Apostle Peter expounded the implication of the adoption we receive through Jesus Christ. “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:” 1 st Peter 2:9 There are many things that characterise a peculiar generation. A peculiar generation is the generation of those who seek God (Psalm 24:6). A peculiar generation is the generation of those who have obtained mercy and through it have be...

ENJOYING & EXERCISING SPIRITUAL AUTHORITY – Saturday January 17th 2015

ENJOYING & EXERCISING SPIRITUAL AUTHORITY   Memorise: And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? Acts 19:15 Read: Acts 13:8-12, Bible in one year: Isaiah 48:50, Acts 10:1-23 Enjoying and exercising spiritual authority is a pleasant experience. Are you enjoying spiritual authority? Better still, are you really exercising your God-given spiritual authority? If not, why? In today’s Bible reading, Paul exercised spiritual authority over an agent of the devil. Elymas the sorcerer could have frustrated the preaching of the gospel to a potential disciple of Jesus Christ, but for the fact that Paul the apostle knew the authority that he had. However, it is one thing to know that you have authority, and it is another thing to exercise it. You cannot exercise the spiritual authority you do not possess, because you cannot give what you don’t have. If you try it, you will end up with spiritual wounds like the seven sons of Sceva in Acts 19:14-16 Y...

ENJOYING DIVINE BLESSINGS? – Friday January 16th 2015

ENJOYING DIVINE BLESSINGS? Memorise: And all these blessings shall on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God. Deuteronomy 28:2 Read: Malachi 3:10-12, Bible in one year: Isaiah 45-47, Acts 9:23-43 God can decide to bless an individual beyond the wildest imagination of men (Deuteronomy 28:1). However, He can later change His mind concerning this decision. Why? “…Be if far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.” 1 st Samuel 2:30 Enjoying divined blessings is conditional. You must be ready to honour God with your life and all it contains if you want to enjoy divine blessings (Deuteronomy 28:2). If you claim to belong to God and yet you are flouting his commandments you must be deceiving yourself because God is not a magician. God’s blessings can only be enjoyed on the condition that you obey Him. In Malachi 3:10-12, God commanded His children to bring all the tithes into His storehouse, ...

A CHILD OR A DOG? – Thursday January 15th 2015

A CHILD OR A DOG?   Memorise: But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs. Matthew 15:26 Read: Matthew 15:21-28, Bible in one year: Isaiah 43-44, Acts 9:1-22 In His discussion with the Syro-Phoenician woman whose daughter was possessed by evil spirits, Jesus expounded that those who belong to the kingdom of God are children of the kingdom, while those outside of the kingdom are viewed as dogs. This truth is further established in Revelation 22:15: “For without are dogs, and sorcerers and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.” Jesus also said that miracles are meant for children of the kingdom and not for dogs. This should be food for thought for anyone seeking a miracle. The question is, “Are you a child or a dog?” You are a candidate for miracles of all sorts if you are a child, but it is unfortunate if you remain in the position of a dog. What are the traits of those considered as dogs...

DIVINE TOUCH – Wednesday January 14th 2015

DIVINE TOUCH Memorise: And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean. Mark 1:41 Read: Luke 7:11-15, Bible in one year: Isaiah 41:42, Acts 8:26-40 Divine touch simply refers to the touch of the Almighty Creator of the world. While there is the divine touch, there is also the satanic and human touch. Whatever is touched by God becomes extraordinarily good. Also, any negative situation that comes in contact with the divine touch experiences a positive turn-around. In Matthew 8:1-4, Jesus touched a leper and his leprosy disappeared. Also, in John 9:1-7, a man who was born blind regained his sight by the divine touch of Jesus Christ. A touch from Jesus can uproot a genetic problem. Even if the source of your problem is demonic, the touch of Jesus can take care of problems that even X-rays or MRI cannot see anything wrong with him or her, but the fellow would know that something is actually wrong somewhere. It is interesting ...

DIVINE REPLACEMENT – Tuesday January 13th 2015

DIVINE REPLACEMENT Memorise: And Samuel said unto him, The LORD hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbour of thine, that is better than thou. 1 st Samuel 15:28 Read: Esther 2:1-4, Bible in one year: Isaiah 38-40, Acts 8:4-25 “And the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained grace and favour in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown upon her head, and made her queen of Vashti,” Esther 2:17 From the scripture above, you will observe that divine replacement has both positive and negative sides of it. For Vashti, the divine replacement that occurred was negative, but for Esther, it was positive. I pray that you will enjoy the positive side of the divine replacement coming your way this season in Jesus’ Name. The Bible says that it is God Almighty who sets kings on thrones (Romans 13:1). The One who installs a king has the power to unseat the same king. Just as there is divine placement, so also is ther...

DIVINE INVOLVEMENT – Monday January 12th 2015

DIVINE INVOLVEMENT  Memorise: And I will give this people favour in the sight of the Egyptians: and it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall not go empty: Exodus 3:21 Read: Exodus 3:7-8, Bible in one year: Isaiah 36:37, Acts 7:44-8:3 Divine involvement simply suggests God’s participation in a subject matter. When the Almighty God gets involved in a person’s affairs, it will appear as if the fellow is wiser or more powerful than others. Nothing becomes impossible for such a person. Whatever the challenges he or she is facing becomes history. The moment the Almighty God got involved in the affliction of the children of Israel , things began to work out for their good. God declared His involvement in their situation in Exodus 3:8a. He said:   “And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians” The first thing God did was to raise a deliverer for them. I pray that the Almighty God will send helpers to you this season in Jesus’ Name. Moses, the helper God...

THE DAY OF FAVOUR – Sunday January 11th 2015

THE DAY OF FAVOUR  Memorise: For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield. Psalm 5:12 Read: Esther 5:1-3, Bible in one year: Isaiah 32:9-35:10, Acts 7:23-43 Queen Esther found favour in the sight of the king and she was promised blessings up to one half of the kingdom. There are lots of lessons in the passage before us. First of these is that the king’s eyes located Esther. 1 st Samuel 16:11-13 tells us how favour located David while he was watching over the flock of his father. Mark 5:1-15 also narrates how favour located the mad man of Gadara in the graveyard. A sister who had been looking for a husband once attended a funeral service. In attendance also was a brother who had also been looking for a wife. One seeing her, he concluded that if the sister could look that beautiful in the mourning clothes, she would look awesome when in high spirits. There and then, he concluded to go after her hand in marriage. This shows that favour...

WONDERS OF HIS PRESENCE – Saturday January 10th 2015

WONDERS OF HIS PRESENCE  Memorise: Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures of evermore. Psalm 16:11 Read: Isaiah 40:28-31, Bible in one year: Isaiah 30:1-32:8, Acts 7:3-22 In Psalm 16:11, the Psalmist reveals that it’s in the presence of the Lord we can find fullness of Joy. It is wise therefore to be in God’s presence. We are guaranteed joy and everlasting satisfaction in His presence. Sin drives a man from the presence of the Lord. It was after the Fall that Adam and his wife ran from the presence of the Lord (Genesis 3:8). Prophets Jonah, in disobedience, also ran from the presence of the Lord and ended up in the belly of the fish (Jonah 1:3, 15& 17). When a man runs from God’s presence, he is half-dead. Only the mercy of God can make him survive it. Some of the wonders of God’s presence are found in our scripture reading today. When you make the presence of the Lord your place of abode, you will never be ...
